The electronic ticket machine February 5th, 2007

I’ve seen this one pop up in the stats in a number of forms. When I first started playing the OFB expansion, I had a few little difficulties with this one as well. The help sections that came with the expansion weren’t very helpful. For instance they say nowhere that you have to set a price before the thing is operational. It is then and only then that you get the option to start charging people, although it seems to have base prices built in.

Some things are worth more than others when it comes to using the electronic ticket method of business. There is a point where the customers won’t pay the price. The first business I opened was a gym… “just to get my feet wet”... I think the price got no higher than 50 simoleans before the customers wouldn’t pay a higher price.

Another thing, is using the electronic ticket machine for a home business. I found it a little odd that even visitors the children brought home from school stopped at the machine and paid for the privelige of visiting. Also there are things that customers don’t use no matter whether the business is at home or away. Like the kitchen, for instance, or an expresso machine (the for the home kind). They will use gym equipment and a few other items freely, regardless of the type of business. They will eat if one of the family members serves food. With the home business, I kept a banquet table. The price of the food was more than offset by the money raked in and it eliminated the need for the family to spend a lot of time cooking. Occasionally they did cook for themselves but rarely for their customers.

If you find any of this helpful, in any way, please feel free to leave comments. I don’t blog as frequently as I probably should because I’m not getting any feedback. Without the search terms in the stats, I don’t know what people are looking for.

Emerald (Sims2 character) January 1st, 2007

One of my families had an alien baby. This is not the first time this has happened and somehow I got the impression that the alien babies usually had the same astrological sign as the father who gave birth to it. This was not the case with this particular alien baby which was a first. I named her Emerald which turned out to be a very telling aspect since she was a precious gem.

Emerald excelled at everything. She didn’t like the piano very much but she loved painting and the other musical instruments. Her father was a doctor; a very successful one at that. What sets Emerald apart, however, is the fact that everyone she meets becomes a friend with little or no effort on her part. This often led to conflicts of a different sort. As she grew up she became quite beautiful but she was also beautiful inside. There was not a person she didn’t like or who didn’t like her.

When she left for the university, her world broadened even more. She wanted to become Mayor so she studied political career but was just as often seen helping others with homework in a variety of subjects. The young men flocked to her but she had eyes only for one named Micheal. It wasn’t smooth sailing for Michael and Emerald but they did love each other very much. There were a number of men willing and able to try to oust Michael’s position in Emerald’s heart. One, in particular, would enjoy nothing more than to wreck their relationship.

Garrett hated Michael as much as he loved Emerald. Garrett constantly tried to manipulate Emerald into compromising positions where Michael could find them easily. You know how infidelity upsets Sims but again that special something between Michael and Emerald always won out. Garrett would constantly look for Emerald to flirt with her or kiss her or just to monopolize her time. One time, in particular, he was coming back from class and boldly walked up to Emerald and began making out with her… right in front of Michael.

Now, what makes this a rather unique situation for me is: I didn’t manipulate any of it. This happened of the Sims’ own volitions. Typically I have to poke and prod my Sims into making friends, socializing, and especially falling in love. They want all these things but most often seem incapable of fulfilling the tiniest wishes in those areas. Perhaps I have difficulty in those areas because I’m reclusive myself. With Emerald, it was effortless. Not only was she very popular, she was also the most intelligent Sim I’ve ever met.

Michael and Emerald did marry and have children. She did realize her lifetime want of becoming Mayor (of course for her it wasn’t hard). Michael became a doctor, like her father. At first, he tried to be a business man but he wasn’t happy with that work. He liked mechanical things and was the first one in the neighborhood to build a robot. Unfortunately, the robot fell in love with Emerald, too. Considering the robots take on the personalities of the Sims who activate them, I suppose that isn’t surprising either.

Garrett continued for several years to woo Emerald away from Michael, only to fail time and again.  He often walked into their house uninvited. Emerald was too nice to tell him to leave but Michael didn’t have a problem doing it. Once, Garrett refused to leave and a fight ensued; a real winger of a fight. Michael won the fight with Garrett but Emerald was so angry she entered the fray. Michael wasn’t so lucky against Emerald. It was the first and last time he and Emerald ever argued over anything.

Ironically, the two children the couple had seemed about as ordinary as every other Sim but there’s hope for the future. They are still quite young.

In no particular order…. December 12th, 2006

Sims2 search terms that have come up in the stats:

sims2 open for business electronic ticket: The electronic ticket stand in OFB allows you to set up a shop where all you are selling is time… on exercise machines, musical instruments, libraries, or any other kind of thing you can come up… Well, you already know from a previous post what I did with it and the raving success it became.

sims 2 brother sister woohoo: With lizz love’s bed, also called the autonomous bed, you can set to have this happen.  Or if, for some weird reason you’d like to see some inbred children from such a union… I’m not sure who would want to but I guess there are all kinds, right? Some things are just too weird for me to contemplate… but, honestly… regardless of some of things I’ve done to the Sims2 game, I’m really a prude.

sims 2 jealousy patch: this patch allows for attached Sims to fool around without the usual consequences of a big fight, regardless of whether their other half is present or not. Indeed, both partners can fool around with the same person if that floats your boat. I’m not sure where I downloaded it. If I remember where I found it or find the link again I’ll post it. There may be a link in one of the posts where you can find and download the autonomous bed… for some reason that sounds about right. I used it rather naughtily myself, prude though I am. Note: It does not work on teens unless there is an updated version I haven’t seen and if a teen gets upset over infidelity, you might find an adult also upset in situations where an adult is in love with the other half of the cheating couple. Teen jealousy seems to override the patch completely in some situations.

Oh, and I found the section of script that changed “No Comments” to “0 Comments”. It was not where I expected nor was it in several other places I might have expected it.

Lizz Love’s Waterbed December 12th, 2006

There seems to be a lot of interest in this bed so I’m providing a download link: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=82193 . You really should spend a lot of time on Mod the Sims2 for objects and hacks to the game if you have interest in expanding your game further than EA’s expansion packs allow. If you have an interest in making your own objects it’s also a good place to share them. I have the interest but not the time so the site is a great place for me to pick up goodies when I’m tired of the older stuff.

Since I haven’t been able to play the game much lately I’ve been thinking about my characters and some of their antics. I often wonder about the AI programming involved in the game because just when I thought I had it figured out, some character did something unexpected in a given situation.

Note: I’m presently trying to find the file that tells the blog to use “No Comments” when there aren’t any comments. I would like to change that to 0 Comments. I’m thinking it might make people more comfortable because, to me, it reads as if comments aren’t allowed when they actually are.
